TxDOT Provides Project
Updates on State of All Kaufman County Projects

The City of Forney and Kaufman County are experiencing rapid growth. To better cope with this large amount of growth, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has begun planning a number of projects within Kaufman County. To help residents better understand what these projects are, what their timeline is, and where they will take place, TxDOT has provided the City with their most recent Transportation Planning Report. Residents are encouraged to read the report and educate themselves on all of the projects that are currently under construction in our area. New Animal Shelter Inches Closer Towards Completion

The City of Forney is currently in the process of constructing a new Animal Shelter Facility. As of June 6, the new animal shelter will be having the glass building front installed. This installation will signal the completion of the exterior work on the new shelter. While the majority of the interior work remains, we are still continuing towards our target completion date. The new animal shelter is to be completed in late July and we look forward to having a grand opening and open house in the near future.

Downtown Construction Project Advancing Quickly

The downtown parking project continues and is currently on time in their process.  Starting on Wednesday, June 7, construction will transfer to the north side of Main, in front of the row containing City Hall and Mama's Daughters' Diner.  These businesses will still be open and accessible.  There are 130 off street parking spaces currently available behind City Hall, the back of the Subcourthouse and the rear portion of the FISD Academic Center.  Public parking directional signage has been added around downtown to help drivers know where to park off street.  Also, there is a Friday morning construction summit at the Forney Donut Shop at Main & Bois D'Arc.  These meetings are open to the public and start at 7:30 a.m.  The contractor, EDC Director and Public Works Director are all present at these meetings to review the plans and meet with the public/business owners.  If you would like more information on this project, please call our office: (972) 564-5808.

FEDC Attends
ICSC RECon in Las Vegas

In late May, the Forney Economic Development staff and several board members attended the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) RECon. This convention brought 37,000 professionals in real estate, development, retail/restaurant operations and public sector employees to the show.  Over the course of three days, the EDC met with quite a few people regarding Forney's growth and need for retail.  Many of the retailers are already familiar with the Forney area and the rapid growth we are experiencing.  Due to several large communities near Forney, some of the stores said they are close to wanting to be in Forney, but aren't quite ready to build until our population grows a little more.  Retail and "rooftops" go hand-in-hand when it comes to attracting these services.  The housing development and high median income are a positive direction for Forney's development as we continue our relationship with retailers and developers.  Last year, EDC staff met with Christian Brothers Automotive.  They showed them the City's demographic profile and due to that meeting, Forney is getting a Christian Brothers Automotive store.  EDC Staff have been following up with contacts from this years show and look forward to working with those who are interested in our market and growth.

Welcomes Summer Intern

The Forney EDC would like to give a warm welcome to Ms. Elenor Griffith, our summer intern.  Elenor is a junior at Southern Methodist University, where she is double majoring in Economics and Markets & Culture.  Originally from Austin, Elenor brings a wealth of knowledge having held previous internships in property management and a congressional campaign.  Her main task this summer is to identify potential redevelopment projects within the downtown and US 80 corridor.  Within her first week, she has already gotten busy meeting Forney business owners and researching downtown property.

Forney Fire Captain Attends TEEX Training School at TAMU

Forney Fire Department Captain Phillip Pyle was recently selected to attend the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer training course, taught by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). Admittance into the CEO course is extremely competitive with applicants going through a competitive process in order to be selected.  The program is delivered by professors from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University and is designed to provide advanced level professional development to sharpen leadership skills of executives within the fire service. Great job Captain Pyle!

Fire Department Participates in Pump Operation Training

Did you know that every fire engine is equipped with monitors that are designed to not only be stationary, but allow water to flow without having to be held by firefighters? For instance, one common monitor is the deck gun. The deck gun is permanently mounted on top of the engine and is plumbed at the time the engine is being constructed. The deck gun can be rotated, raised, and lowered, while the nozzle can be adjusted to flow the water in a straight seam or fog pattern depending on the need. The deck gun may also flow to 1,500 gallons per minute, which is determined by the pump that supplies it. Another monitor that can be used is a fire line, which is set where needed and allows firefighters to stand by and make adjustments to direction and flow as needed. It is typically connected to a 3" fire line. A fire line that large is too heavy and cumbersome to be used as a hand line by firefighters. If firefighters must use a 3" line they usually get set where the fire line is needed and two firefighters man the hose to maintain control. The ground is sometimes used to counteract the back pressure created by the nozzle reaction, each of which flow large amounts of water. These devices are used for large fires that require large amounts of water or for protecting structures within close proximity to fire or high winds.

CPA Graduating Class

Police Department Celebrates
first CPA Graduating Class

On May 23, the Forney Police Department recognized the graduates of their first Citizens Police Academy. The first CPA class had 27 graduates after the 12-week course, which offered residents a unique, hands-on experience of law enforcement practices such as recruitment, training, narcotics, firearms and the School Resource Officers. The CPA class also served as a wonderful opportunity for residents to get to better understand the Forney Police Department and establish a closer connection with the community. Plans are already underway for the second class in either late 2017 or early 2018. We will pass along all the information when it becomes available.

Residents Thank FPD During Police Week

The Forney Police Department (FPD) is extremely lucky to have such caring and generous residents, and that was never more present than during 2017 National Police Week. Throughout the entire week of May 15, various local businesses and residents routinely dropped of perishable goods thanking FPD for all they do. The FPD would in turn like to thank all of the residents who made the week of May 15 special!

Public Works Crews Repave CR 212 with Asphalt

With the development of the Gateway area, including Gateway Parks, County Road (CR) 212 has been put under a large amount of stress recently with all of the construction trucks travelling down the road. This increased traffic of large vehicles has taken its toll not only on CR 212 but also residents who used the road daily. During the week of May 29, Public Works crews worked to repave CR 212 with new asphalt and provide some relief for drivers during their commute.
