Forney EDC Establishes
Downtown Loyalty Program

The Downtown Enhancement Project has been underway for several months and is beginning to take shape as residents can now see all of the improvements that will be made throughout the Downtown corridor. Unfortunately, this project at times can have a temporary adverse affect on businesses located within the Historic Downtown Forney District.

To help those businesses in Downtown, the Forney Economic Development Office (FEDC) has established the Downtown Forney Loyalty Card Program. This loyalty program will encourage customers to still visit businesses throughout downtown, rather than be discouraged by construction. The following are details on how to participate in the program:
  • Participating Downtown businesses will have “participating merchant” sticker in window
  • Customers can pick up a Loyalty Card at any participating business
  • Make purchase of any amount, at any store and receive a sticker for loyalty card
  • Collect 10 stickers to complete card
  • Drop off card at any participating business
  • FEDC will hold drawings and contact monthly winners

Once a month, all completed cards will be collected and two winners will be randomly selected, each of whom will receive a $50 gift certificate. There is no limit to the number of cards a single customer may enter and the gift certificates are redeemable at the participating merchant store of the winner’s choice. For more complete information about the program, please visit www.cityofforney.org/downtownloyalty
Forney Fire Department

Brookshire’s Donates Gatorade to FFD

While responding to an emergency during the summer months, residents would find it hard to believe the amount of water and Gatorade that first responders consume while on scene. The temperature outside, the heat index inside the firefighters bunker gear and length of the emergency call, can all cause some level of dehydration. On June 28, Brookshire’s in Forney played their part in helping the City’s first responders avoid dehydration this summer by donating several cases of Gatorade to the department. This is the fifth consecutive year that Brookshire’s in Forney has donated to the City’s first responders. A big thank you to everyone involved at Brookshire’s in Forney, especially Joey Aiken and Len Haralson!

FFD Offers Fire Prevention Tips and Demos

There is something about a fire engine that brings out a special glow in a child. Luckily for some of the Forney firefighters, they get to witness this quite a bit. In late June, firefighters stopped by for a quick visit a Noah’s Ark for a public education demo. While these events are usually fun and low-key, they provide an important message for our youth and the dangers of fire.

Police Departments Participates in Safety Day

On June 30, the Forney Police Department in conjunction with the “Don’t Text and Drive” campaign hosted a Safety Day at Wal-Mart. It was a great time teaching residents about the dangers of distracted driving, especially texting. In 2016 alone, distracted driving was responsible for 445 deaths and more than 3,000 injuries from crashes. We hope the message was received by everyone who stopped by the tent. Thanks to everyone who came by and met some of the officers, they always enjoy speaking with residents and taking pictures!

Cooking Oil Program

Forney Public Works to Collect Cooking Oil from Residents

Do you love frying cat fish, but aren’t sure what to do with the oil when you are finished? The Forney Public Works Department collects used cooking oil year-round for recycling purposes. To help encourage recycling, residents can receive a free cooking oil funnel at the Public Works Office, 402 N. Bois D’ Arc. This funnel will help transfer oil from pots and pans into disposable plastic containers, which can then be turned in for recycling purposes. For more information, please call 972.564.7339.

City to Proactively Spray for Mosquitoes

The City of Forney continues to proactively spray for mosquitoes, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. The water soluble spray that will be used to fog for the mosquitoes, will not harm animals. Residents will not want their pets and open windows in the path of the fog machine due to their residue and mild odor. Residents should take the following precautions during spraying:

  • Bring your pets inside for the night and bring in or cover any outdoor pet dishes
  • Cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths.
  • Do not go outside during spray time.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during spraying.
