CAFR Award

Finance Department
Acknowledged with CAFR Award

During the October 3 City Council meeting, Mayor Rick Wilson recognized the Finance Department for recently be awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. We’d like to recognize our Finance Department for the work they do and the awards they continue to receive. Great work!

Monthly Sales Tax Report

In comparison to September 2016, the sales tax payment for the last month decreased by 3.34%. While the City did budget a conservative 5% increase, we have experienced an increase of 7.21% overall from the prior year. We'd also like to note that even though this report is the end of the fiscal year, these are not the final figures for the year and just merely reflect what has been recorded as of September 30th.

Participating Merchant

Forney EDC Continues
Downtown Loyalty Program

The Downtown Enhancement Project has been underway for several months and is beginning to take shape as residents can now see all of the improvements that will be made throughout the Downtown corridor. Unfortunately, this project at times can have a temporary adverse affect on businesses located within the Historic Downtown Forney District.

To help those businesses in Downtown, the Forney Economic Development Office (FEDC) has established the Downtown Forney Loyalty Card Program. This loyalty program will encourage customers to still visit businesses throughout downtown, rather than be discouraged by construction. The following are details on how to participate in the program:
  • Participating Downtown businesses will have “participating merchant” sticker in window
  • Customers can pick up a Loyalty Card at any participating business
  • Make purchase of any amount, at any store and receive a sticker for loyalty card
  • Collect 10 stickers to complete card
  • Drop off card at any participating business
  • FEDC will hold drawings and contact monthly winners

Once a month, all completed cards will be collected and two winners will be randomly selected, each of whom will receive a $50 gift certificate. There is no limit to the number of cards a single customer may enter and the gift certificates are redeemable at the participating merchant store of the winner’s choice. For more complete information about the program, please visit www.cityofforney.org/downtownloyalty

Firefighters Undergo Tests to Join FFD

In late July, the Forney Fire Department (FFD) was awarded a SAFER Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that would provide a substantial amount of funding that would allow the department to hire six additional firefighters. In September, the FFD began the hiring process with a written and physical agility test. Once completed, the FFD will begin the interview process and then finally select the six firefighters. The goal is to have the new firefighters hired by December!

Lock, Take, Hide

Remember to LOCK, TAKE, HIDE, Especially During the Holiday Season

The Forney Police Department would ask residents and community members to please LOCK, TAKE and HIDE your valuables. Over the last month some areas have had a number of car burglaries. The easiest way to deter a potential thief is locking your car. Locking your vehicle, taking valuables inside your home, or hiding them out of view can help prevent you from becoming a victim. Please remember this as the holiday season approaches.

Officers Busy as School Year Continues
