Forney Police Academy Cadets Visit the Gun Range

Earlier in May, ‘cadets’ from the Forney Police Department Citizens Police Academy spent some time down at the range. Cadets had the opportunity to use a number of the same firearms that officers from the department carry. Some of the cadets had good shots too! This is the second year the police department is hosting the police academy and can’t wait to start planning year three in the near future.

FOG

Bring your Used
Cooking Oil to Public Works

With the summer months on the horizon, as you’re gearing up for fish fries and cookouts, the City of Forney Public Works Department wants to remind all residents that we offer used cooking oil recycling as a means to keep our sewer systems free from grease stoppages.

Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) come from meats, butters and margarine, lard, food scraps, sauces, salad dressings, dairy products, and cooking oil. When FOG goes down the drain, it hardens and causes sewer pipes to clog. This can lead to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) where raw sewage actually backs up into your home, lawn, neighborhood, and streets. Not only does this nasty mess cause health issues, it also can run into a nearby stream or river, which affects our drinking water. If your pipes become clogged from putting FOG down the drain, it can be very expensive problem to fix. To avoid household and environmental damage as well as a costly bill, NEVER put FOG down the drain!

Mosquito Truck

City begins Proactively
Spraying Measures for Mosquitoes

The City of Forney has begun to proactively spray for mosquitoes, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. The water soluble spray that will be used to fog for the mosquitoes, will not harm animals. Residents will not want their pets and open windows in the path of the fog machine due to their residue and mild odor. Residents should take the following precautions during spraying:

  • Bring your pets inside for the night and bring in or cover any outdoor pet dishes
  • Cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths.
  • Do not go outside during spray time.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during spraying.
  • If you have health problems, such as asthma, take special precautions as directed by your doctor, if necessary.
Upcoming spraying dates include:

Mon., June 11, 2018 North of Hwy 80
Tues., June 12, 2018 South of Hwy 80
Wed., June 13, 2018 Parks, Off Road & Creeks

Mon., June 25, 2017 North of Hwy 80
Tues., June 26, 2017 South of Hwy 80
Wed., June 27, 2017 Parks, Off Road & Creeks
