Join a Board or Commission

We get calls from residents all the time asking about construction projects, economic development or what they would like to see in the City. We love answering as many of the calls as possible, but another way to stay “in-the-know” on what is going on throughout the City is by joining a board or commission. Most boards and commissions meet either monthly, bi-monthly or even when-needed. Whether you just moved to Forney or have lived here for 10+ years, we are always looking for residents with different backgrounds to apply to be on a board and its easy to apply! All you have to do is complete and application to serve on any City board or commission, which can be completed and submitted online. The form and descriptions of each board can be found online. To submit an application or find out more information about each board, please visit http://cityofforney.org/173/City-Secretary

FEDC Attends 2018 NTCAR Expo in Dallas

Yesterday, representatives from the Forney Economic Development Department attended the annual North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors and Real Estate Professionals (NTCAR) event in Dallas. The Forney EDC used the commercial real estate expo as an opportunity to showcase what our City has to offer to commercial real estate and development professionals. What does the Forney EDC gain out of attending events such as NTCAR? Well, it was during the NTCAR expo in 2017 that representatives from the Forney EDC met with the future developers of the “Victorian Village” business project that will soon be breaking ground. These events and expos are vital in showcasing everything the City of Forney has to offer!

In late August, Smurfit Kappa Health and Safety Manager, Seven Bong, stopped by Central Fire Station to drop off some donations for the Forney Fire Department. Mr. Bong provided the firefighters with several Milwaukee power tools! Assistant Fire Chief Pyle, Fire Chief Townsend, Volunteer Firefighter Chapman, and firefighters McCreary, Keith and Jacobs all accepted the gift on behalf of the Fire Department. Thanks to Smurfit Kappa and Mr. Bong for their generous donation!

Splash Pad to Close September 7

It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of the Community Park Splash Pad on September 7, as Friday will be the last day that the Splash Pad is open. While it is always sad when we close the Splash Pad, it’s a sign than lower temperatures and other popular events like Trail of Treats and Christmas in the Park are quickly approaching!

National Night Out set for October 2

It may be too hot to think about a block party right now, but National Night Out is only a few months away! Held on the first Tuesday in October, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that both the Forney Fire and Police Departments participate in. This program enhances the relationship that first responders have with residents, while bringing back a true sense of community. If you would like either of the departments to visit your block party, we encourage you to contact them. Those interested may contact the FPD at 972.564.2106 or the FFD at 972.564.2211.

Cedar Street gets a Lift, with Help from Public Works

In late August, Public Works crews began a small project on Cedar street. To correct a “dip” that had appeared in the roadway, crews removed almost a foot and a half of the street to add more base to the street. With this added base and pavement, the street will no longer have any issues regarding the “dip”. Residents can report any street issues through the “In the Loop” mobile app. For more information about “In the Loop”, please visit www.cityofforney.org/intheloop
