Goodyear chooses
Forney for New Distribution Center

During the October 16 City Council meeting, the council was informed that the Goodyear Tire Company, the multinational tire manufacturing company founded in 1898, has selected a site for a new distribution center in the City of Forney.

“We are very excited to welcome one of the nation’s most recognizable brands to Forney. Their role as a leader in commerce continues to evolve and we look forward to being part of their innovation in the distribution of good and services,” said Forney City Manager Tony Carson.

The state-of-the-art 1.2 million square-foot-facility will be located at the southwest corner of South Gateway Boulevard and U.S. Highway 80. The distribution center is anticipated to create at least 160 full-time positions, which would make Goodyear one of the major employers in the City of Forney.

The effort to bring this employer to Forney has been a joint partnership with the Forney Economic Development Corporation (FEDC), Hillwood Properties, Petro-Hunt, the City Council and many departments within the City.

Warren Ketteman, Executive Director of the FEDC added, “We’re thrilled about the opportunity to bring such an iconic company to Forney. Goodyear is the most innovative tire manufacturer and distributer; this mirrors the efforts of the City and FEDC to continue to innovate for the benefit of our residents.”

Panera Bread

Panera Bread Coming to Forney

The City of Forney is excited to announce that fast casual bakery-café, Panera Bread will soon be opening a location in Forney. The Missouri-based company will be located on the property south of Kroger at the intersection of Marketplace Blvd. and the WB U.S. Highway 80 frontage road.

“Panera is excited to be a part of the Forney Marketplace development with excellent presence off of Highway 80 and Old FM 548,” said Senior Development Project Manager, Justin Knepper. “The city staff and developer have been awesome to work with and are doing everything they can to set us up for success at this new location.”

As a “bakery-café”, Panera offers a wide array of pastries and baked goods, such as croissants, bagels, cookies, scones, muffins and brownies. These, along with artisan breads, are baked before dawn by on-staff bakers at the bakery. Since 2009 the company has been recognized as one of the top restaurants in the industry and was recently named 2018 Harris Poll – Sandwich Shop of the year.

“Panera Bread is an excellent addition to Forney’s business community,” said Forney Economic Development Corporation Director Warren Ketteman. He added, “We believe this announcement will serve to kickstart more development along the U.S. Highway 80 frontage road.”

It’s estimated that 50-60 jobs will be created with the restaurant’s opening in Forney and hiring will begin in late 2019 prior to opening. For more information about Panera Bread or to apply, please visit www.panerabread.com.

Community Cam

"Forney Community Cam" Project Aims to Help Protect Residents

The Forney Police Department is excited to announce its latest effort to deter crime in our community, the “Forney Community Cam” project. This project is a collaboration with residents who have surveillance systems at their home or business.

Home owners and/or business owners can privately register their surveillance systems at their homes and businesses with the Forney Police Department through the project. If a crime occurs near one of the registered homes and businesses, the footage could be voluntarily provided by the department to aid in the apprehension and conviction of the parties involved.

Registering your information will not provide the police department with direct access to your camera(s) and you will only be contacted if it is believed your camera could contain evidence relevant to a criminal investigation. All information registered through the program will be kept confidential through the police department.

Video footage is an invaluable asset in identifying suspects and establishing leads in criminal cases. We invite all residents to join us in our mission to provide the highest level of service to our community.

For more information about the “Forney Community Cam” project or to register your home or business, please visit www.cityofforney.org/communitycam. For questions you may also call 972.564.5600.

Flush

What you can and can't flush!

Did you know that items advertised as “flushable” are not good for the sewer system? Most sewer spills in the City are the result of flushable items clogging the system. Flushing these items may block sewer pipes, causing untreated wastewater to back up into your home and nearby waterways. Sewer systems force wastewater through the pipes, but “flushable” items do not have enough time to break down between being flushed and entering the system, which results in those items becoming trapped and causing damage or a spill. The most common items found in a blockage include:
• Baby wipes
• Feminine Products
• Fats/Oils/Greases
• Paper Towels
• Towels/Sheets

Please do not flush these items, throw them in the waste.
