2019 Administration
Victorian Village

Work Begins
on Victorian Village Project

On the morning of January 4, the City held a groundbreaking for the “Victorian Village” project near the intersection of Chestnut and Main St. In May 2018, the City Council unanimously approved an agreement with the Garrett Moore Company to construct four 3 to 5,000 square-foot buildings modeled after the Victorian homes along Swiss Avenue in Dallas. The mixed-use development will bring in much needed retail and office space, in a one-of-a-kind setting. The project also provides a “bookend” for our downtown area and will serve as a catalyst for additional development in the immediate area. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Garrett Moore Company, who have more than 40 years’ experience in developing properties across North Texas including Swiss Tower and Billy Bob’s in Ft. Worth.

Transportation Forum Shows
How Much Texas, Forney is Growing

On January 7 and 8 in Austin, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) held its annual Texas Transportation Forum, which brings together transportation leaders and advocates, industry innovators, local, state and national policy makers to discuss the “State of Transportation” in Texas. As industry continues to grow in Texas, especially North Texas, more jobs will become available, leading to an increase of people relocating to our area. Pictured is one of the images from the presentation during one of the open forums. Kaufman County is one of the fastest growing counties, by percentage growth in the United States. Engine Push In

FFD Welcomes New
Engine to Central Station

In late December, the Forney Fire Department had the privilege to participate in the time-honored tradition of washing down and “pushing-in” a new engine. An old tradition from when departments had steam engines that were pulled by horses, staff members along side firefighters, pushed the new Engine 1 into its new home at Central Fire Station. The isn’t the only new apparatus the City will be receiving. In a couple of months, the City will also welcome a new platform ladder truck!

It's Almost Here!

Last week, several members from the Forney Fire Department traveled to Snyder, Nebraska, to complete a final inspection on the new Spartan 100’ Heavy Duty Rear Mount Platform truck. This truck will be housed at the Fire Station No. 2 and will be home very shortly!

Project Tracker

TxDOT Project
Tracker Helps Residents Projects

Did you know that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has a project tracker online that has information on more than 11,000 TxDOT projects. Several roads that go through the City are controlled by the state, including FM 548, 1641, 740, 741 and Highway 80. Residents can view projects by highway, project ID, TxDOT District and even by County. Each project is given a project summary that provides a description of the project, where the project is located, estimated construction cost, estimated completion date and the timely project update. This is a great resource to use when you have a question about a certain project, for instance the roadwork currently being performed on FM 1641. To check out the project tracker, please visit http://apps.dot.state.tx.us/apps-cq/project_tracker/.

Tank Pour

How You Can Stay Up-to-Date on Capital Improvement Projects

If you have been driving East on Broad St. in the last several months, you may have noticed quite a big dirt mound being constructed on the opposite side of the rail road tracks near Community Park. What is it you ask? First, we are in the middle of constructing a 5 million-gallon water tank in the area and last night we poured the floor. This project is the second phase of construction for Pump Station No. 2 and is necessary because of the additional water that is being needed to serve our area. For more information about this project and all of the other Capital Improvement Projects across the City, please visit https://www.cityofforney.org/729/Capital-Improvement-Program.
