Prep Your Yard for Spring

Are you landscaping your yard, but not exactly sure where to start? In partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, Water University has a wonderful tool that will allow residents to search a plant database to search for the specific type of plant, tree, or shrub. The tool will allow residents to search within a number of parameters including, if the plant is Texas native, light and water requirements, character, type of plant, wildlife value, color and much more.  Before you plan your garden, check out the plant database tool at https://wateruniversity.tamu.edu/design/

Peddler

Solicitors Must Have Permits

As we move closer to spring, residents may experience an increase in door-to-door sales associates. If you do encounter a solicitor at your door, they are REQUIRED to have a permit from the City of Forney. These permits are required because they allow the City to perform background checks on applicants, which then allows the City to approve or deny the permit request. Not only are solicitors required to carry the permit on them at all times, they are also restricted to go door-to-door from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Residents who wish to have no interaction with solicitors are asked to display “No Solicitation Allowed” or “No Peddlers Allowed” sign that can be easily visible. If you suspect that a person in your neighborhood is soliciting without a permit, please call the Forney Police Department at 972.564.7600.

Forney Fire Helps Residents
Find Safe Places with "Selfies"

Where do you go during a tornado? As the temperatures continue to climb and the severe weather season approaches, we want all our residents to be prepared for the threat of a tornado. Knowing your “safe place” in your home or place of work is the most essential preparedness activity that can save your life from extreme weather. On April 3, the Forney Fire Department, courtesy of Firefighter Jackson demonstrated several of his favorite locations during an emergency, such as a tornado.  If you are in a home, avoid windows, go to the lowest floor, small center room, or an interior hallway with no windows. Crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down; and cover your head with your hands.

Lake Bois D Arc Map

NTMWD continues
Construction of Bois d’Arc Lake

Did you know that the North Texas Municipal Water District is currently constructing the first major reservoir to be built in Texas in nearly 30 years? After 15 years of planning and permitting, construction began in May 2018 on Bois d’Arc Lake located northeast of Bonham in Fannin County. The lake will cover almost 26 square miles and yield almost 108 million gallons of water per day. The reservoir’s two-mile-long and 90-foot-tall dam will create a lake capable of storing 120 billion gallons of water. The additional storage will help ensure crucial water supplies for the future of our growing region. Water delivery is scheduled to begin in 2022. For more information about the project, please visit www.boisdarclake.org

Project Tracker

TxDOT Project
Tracker Helps Residents Projects

Did you know that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has a project tracker online that has information on more than 11,000 TxDOT projects. Several roads that go through the City are controlled by the state, including FM 548, 1641, 740, 741 and Highway 80. Residents can view projects by highway, project ID, TxDOT District and even by County. Each project is given a project summary that provides a description of the project, where the project is located, estimated construction cost, estimated completion date and the timely project update. This is a great resource to use when you have a question about a certain project, for instance the roadwork currently being performed on FM 1641. To check out the project tracker, please visit http://apps.dot.state.tx.us/apps-cq/project_tracker/.

Tank Pour

How You Can Stay Up-to-Date on Capital Improvement Projects

If you have been driving East on Broad St. in the last several months, you may have noticed quite a big dirt mound being constructed on the opposite side of the rail road tracks near Community Park. What is it you ask? First, we are in the middle of constructing a 5 million-gallon water tank in the area and last night we poured the floor. This project is the second phase of construction for Pump Station No. 2 and is necessary because of the additional water that is being needed to serve our area. For more information about this project and all of the other Capital Improvement Projects across the City, please visit https://www.cityofforney.org/729/Capital-Improvement-Program.
